If you’ve never moved you may not know the feeling of dread when thinking about how you’re going to move all of your delicate items. This could include your precious china set, family heirloom, or fragile glass figurines that you would love to keep in one piece. Broken items are one of the things people fear the most when they’re moving. Some helpful supplies you can use to keep your precious items in one piece during your move are packing paper, bubble wrap, and brown paper tape. Here are 4 tips on how to protect your beloved belongings during your move.

  1. Double Wrap Your Items With Paper and Bubble Wrap – When in doubt of whether your items will survive the trip, just double wrap them with paper and bubble wrap. This will help ensure that nothing is broken during transit. The trick is to wrap each item in two layers of bubble wrap and then in two layers of packing paper to keep it all together. You can seal the layers with a little bit of tape.
  2. Use Paper as a Cushion – You can crinkle up a few pieces of packing paper and add them to the inside of the box before you add any of your wrapped up items to it. You can use the paper to create layers between your items and then add another layer on top before you seal up your box.
  3. Label Your Box – This one may seem like common sense but in the heat of packing we may forget to label our delicate items as fragile. Label the box as fragile to ensure that your movers know they need to be extra careful with this box and they can place it in an area where it won’t get crushed.
  4. Leave An Inch at the Top of the Box – Leaving an inch of space at the top of the box doesn’t count as the protective layer of paper you have at the top of the box. Leave an actual inch of space between your packing material and the top of the box because if a heavier box happens to be placed on the fragile items box this will allow for an extra precautionary cushion.

These tips may seem pretty simple and obvious but they can go a long way and make a huge difference when it comes to keeping your fragile belongings in one piece. You can even transport your delicate items separately and/or ahead of the actual move. The best option is to hire a professional moving company who has the experience and know-how to make sure your move is a hassle-free one.
