Moving During A Pandemic

moving COVID-19

We can all say that we’ve been affected by this coronavirus outbreak one way or another. You may have had your move planned during this time period months ago or maybe you’re just considering reuniting with loved ones. Either way, special precautions have to be taken. In this post, we share with you, practical advice on how to safely move during these unsure times.

First and Foremost – Moving Supplies

Right now, everyone is going after “stay-at-home” supplies. But as this situation escalates, you’ll want to be fast when it comes to gathering the supplies you need to move. This includes moving boxes, bubble wrap, packing peanuts, and packing tape. If your local FedEx store or post office is still open, head on over there to get new moving boxes. Using old boxes at this point may not be a good idea and could be unsafe. If you can, use plastic moving containers like large Tupperware containers, and make sure to disinfect them.

Food is Essential

Depending on where you live, you may already be under quarantine. But you can use this time to pack up your home since you’ll be spending a lot of time in it. Choosing the right foods to pack will make it easier for when you are able to get to your new home. Eat the perishable items you have in your home while you’re quarantined and save the non-perishables. Pack these up to take to your new home like beans, lentils, and other canned foods.

Navigating the Process

If you’ve had your move planned for a while, then you probably have a moving company lined up. If you do, then check in and communicate with them to figure things out. If you don’t have a moving company lined up, then here are a few important steps to take:

  • Pack things up yourself: Usually a professional mover will do this but in this case, you’ll have to spend your quarantine time packing up your home as long as you have the essential moving supplies to do so
  • Cut down on Items: No matter what the situation is, you’ll make it much easier on yourself the less items you have. Consider getting rid of unnecessary items that don’t need to come to your new home.
  • Get moving quotes: Get a quote from reputable moving companies in Havertown like O’Malley’s Moving Services. If they’re temporarily not taking customers, then get a quote for after the quarantine is lifted.

At O’Malley Moving, we are taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safest and cleanest moving experience for our customers. If you need to make a move and your moving company has cancelled at the last minute, you can contact us to schedule your move right away!
