Moving days are not just crazy busy and exhausting days, but they can be somewhat tricky and even dangerous too. Being 100% ready for your moving day is tough but dressing and making sure you stay safe during the process is a little bit easier. We’ve put together a comprehensive list of what to wear and not to wear on moving day to ensure your move is a safe one!

So, what clothes should you wear on moving day? Well the short answer is both comfortable and safe clothing.

Comfortable Clothes: You’re going to be moving around a lot including going in and out of your house numerous times so choose to wear the comfiest clothes you have as long as they fit the guidelines below.

Close-Fitting Clothes: You’re going to want to make sure you wear clothes that won’t impact your safety like sweatpants that may make you susceptible to tripping over your pant leg. You can easily see how this would be a dangerous situation. You don’t want your clothes to snag on things as you’re walking by especially if you’re carrying a heavy box.

Breathable Clothes: Moving is hard work and requires a lot of moving around (no pun intended). If you’re moving during the warmer months, it doesn’t take long to start to build up a sweat. Make sure to wear breathable clothes that allow for air circulation to keep you cool.

Dispensable clothes: Moving day can be a little unpredictable and no matter how careful you are, there still is the possibility of dirtying or staining your clothes. Make sure to wear clothes that can take a little bit of a beating and even get a little stained.

What Shoes to Wear: Make sure to wear shoes that are light on your feet and comfortable. These shoes should be fully enclosed and provide good ankle support. Make sure these shoes have good traction and will help you avoid slipping.

Don’t Forget Your Accessories: Gloves can make a huge difference in protecting your hands while moving so make sure to use a pair that still provides you some dexterity. Also, depending on when you’re moving, the sun plays a big factor in the conditions in which you move in so make sure to not forget your sunscreen!

What NOT to Wear on Moving Day: Avoid baggy clothes like we stated before. Snagging your clothes accidentally could lead to injury or breakage of your items. Avoid clothes that restrict your movement and make sure the clothes you’re wearing can take a beating. Do not wear open toe shoes like flip-flops or high heels. Jewelry is not necessary to wear on moving day and could potentially put you at greater risk for injury.
